The Queen will have to pay mansion tax on her palaces if Labour wins next year’s General Election, Ed Balls vowed today.

All homes valued over £2million will warrant the levy – and the royals will not be exempt, the Shadow Chancellor said.

The only exceptions will be for historic properties that are open to the public for at least 28 days a year – meaning Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle will not be taxed.

But the royal family would still face a hefty bill for Balmoral, Sandringham and other private residences.

William and Kate’s new Anmer Hall home in Norfolk would also be hit.

The annual charge would be calculated as a percentage of a property’s value, with council tax-style bands so that someone in a £10million mansion will pay more than the owner of a £2.1million home.

Mr Balls said: “The royal family pays tax like everyone else, and rightly so. There aren’t different rules for anybody – it’s the nature of our society.”

It matters not does it, she doesn´t pay anyone, it will come out of the public purse, doubt she will lose any sleep over it. Try putting that lot in the normal world, having to find and use their own money, they might think twice before being so extravagant, always easy to spend money you have not had to work hard to earn.

From being a staunch monarchist all my life, (like millions of others) I am now heartily sick of them all. The slide down the slippery slope for the RF started when Wasty attached herself to Willy and its now too far gone to do anything about it.

I agree and she should have dealt with it before the Midds got a hold on him. QE apparently became alarmed when Kate shared a house with him at St Andrews then when she saw and heard about Ma she was horrified. She didn't act then as was concerned that her reputation would fall again dramatically as it did after Diana's death and thought that the relationship would burn itself out. She now spends every day regretting that she didn't act and remove Willy from the toxic Midd's clutches.
