Royals and Tourism Attraction - Busting the Myth
Well, bang goes how much tourism the British royals bring in. Found this on Wikipedia - my curiosity was piqued when I read, yet again, a DM comment about how much tourism the British royals brought in.
Top Ten International Destinations for tourism 2013
1. France with 84.7 million toursits
2. US 69.8m
3. Spain 60.7m
4. China 55.7m
5. Italy 47.7.m
6. Turkey 37.8m
7. Germany 31.5m
8. UK 31.2m
9. Russia 28.4m
10. Thailand 26.5m
Not too impressive is it, and certainly does the British royals no favours.

Re: Royals and Tourism Attraction - Busting the Myth
That the Royal family bring tourists is a myth and fact is they cost us Britons around £36.7m per year, equivalent to 61p per taxpayer. Disgraceful!

Desperate PR put out to retain the Monarchy but people are finally realising that they are a totally unnecessary expense.

Re: Royals and Tourism Attraction - Busting the Myth
That is ONLY the civil list. The actual cost is
Civil list + security + travel + costs including Palace, electricity etc
It is more like £200.000.0000 pa or more
then private flights using RAF and it goes on and on
then they decide they own the sea beds and poof there is the ok for wind farms.
It is rumoured it is in the billions per year

It appears that the Press is finally turning and revealing more of the truth about the unacceptable cost of the Monarchy which should have long ago been abolished.

When the people of UK are suffering to put food on the table, then yes it needs to go. I also think we should be able to view the art, jewels etc.Given we own it all, we should be able to see it

So agree, but not too sure if the public own them. Are the Crown jewels not part of Queenie's personal collection?
Interesting link about Queenie's Grandmother.
"Queen Mary got it wrong. One is supposed to “love people and use things.” She did the very opposite. Mary loved things and used people. The Queen had an “emotional lurch of the heart when she saw beautiful jewels,” but hated to pay for them. On seeing something she coveted, she said, “I’m caressing it with my eyes.” But it didn’t stop there. She acquired jewels, furniture, Faberge animals, watches, and gold musical boxes by means that ranged from begging to extortion to outright theft. She loved to visit India where the “maharajas handed out jewels like blackberries.”

No the crown Jewels are ours. Everything is ours except
Gifts from other countries, personal gifts and personal family ( not owned by or paid for by the crown )

It was reported that Fawcett the Fence soon set up a lucrative little business with 'gifts from other countries'!!!

I believe he did. Is he the guy who is very "close" to chucky? The guy who is "non-negotiable"?

Re: Royals and Tourism Attraction - Busting the Myth
Thank you Romilly. Lurked for a little while but so pleased I took the plunge and registered. So much info on here, it is wonderful, and I had noticed that opinions were respected, which is excellent, on so many forums you get shouted down, and some can be quite nasty. I am enjoying being here, and thank you so much for your welcome.

Re: Royals and Tourism Attraction - Busting the Myth
Hi Snags - great to have you on board. The posters on here seem to have excellent inside information and only print the truth and not the wide speculation often seen on other boards. They obviously research the information really well too and appear to know far more than posters on other forums.

I think if more people aired their thoughts to offset the sugars, they might get the idea
Re: Royals and Tourism Attraction - Busting the Myth
It appears that the tide is turning re the Press and they are getting crafty digs in. In today's DM there is a large heading about a surrogacy story and then almost under that a story about Waity going to Malta.
