Willy boy EAAA job announced - security costs will be enormous at KP and Anmer
After leaving the military last September, however, the Duke announced a “transitional year”. Seasoned royal watchers assumed this was palace jargon for a brief intermission before succumbing to an endless schedule of official engagements.
In January, Buckingham Palace courtiers were quoted privately conceding that the Queen, 88, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 93, were on a “gradual downward trajectory” in the number of engagements they can carry out. The Duke, it was thought, would pick up some of the slack after going on a tour of Australia with his wife and taking a short agricultural course at Cambridge University.
The Duke, it is clear now, had other ideas. On Thursday, he announced a new job as a pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. In a major departure from royal precedent, the role makes him the first future king to work in a civilian job. He has signed up for two years and will work four days a week, with four days off in between shifts, leaving much less time for his official duties.
How, then, will the Duke and Duchess adjust to their new lives?
Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace will remain their permanent residence but, once the Duke has obtained his civilian pilot’s licence they will, from spring 2015, be spending most of their time at the 10-bedroom Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate. The hall, which has a swimming pool and a tennis court, has undergone a £1.5 million refurbishment to prepare it for the couple and their one-year-old son.
So, not only did granny pay a heavy donation and pull strings to get willy boy the job, it will also cost the taxpayer double security for KP and Anmer Hall. So pleased he is doing this for charity - ha ha, joke. Anything he might make for EAAA will be taken up with RPO´s, and of course let us not forget it is a 1.5 hour drive from Sandringham to Cambridge, which is no doubt why granny bought willy boy a helicopter, so that he can "drive" himself there and back in the chopper. All comes together in the end odesn´t it, now we know what the new chopper is for. Plus to run waity and sprog up and down to Anmer. But let us remember, they live like "normal" people - ha ha ha ha ha.

Good point Rozel, how convenient for Willy to hop in the chop from Sandringham to Cambridge. Be there in a jiffy!
There is a mixed bag of comments on DigitalSpy about his Co-pilot job, some of them are very funny. Slightly off topic, but, worth mentioning the 'Hotgossip' post about the the incredulous actions of the security men in Norfolk prior to Prince Edward arriving in someones shop, utterly ridiculous. Talk about gangstas in tiaras! Just who do they think they are? Beats me.
Here is one of the posts ....
"He may have wanted the "job"... but the "job didn't need doing. Sulla is right.. this is just a hobby. It's not how life works so people should stop congratulating him on getting the pointless job he's doesn't have to do."

Just came across this. The EAAA are saying how willy boy will raise the profile of the charity etc., but I am disbelieving on that front, promotional work for himself.
Anyway, some research was done on it, an interesting read.
"Regardless of what celebrities may want in terms of publicity -- and the interviews suggest that many would seek to maximize the attention given to their cause, and not to them -- it is clear that the celebrity can often do better out of this attention than their causes."

Re: Willy boy EAAA job announced - security costs will be enormous at KP and Anmer
I was visiting a friend in Watford this morning and we had a bit of excitement, although rather sad for the persons concerned. We watched the Virgin air ambulance land in the park opposite, appears there had been a road accident at the junction of Watford Way and Hendon Way. Such superb and skilled flying from the pilot, we were both in awe of what was occurring right in front of our very eyes; he circled at around 100 feet for about five minutes, at a fairly sharp angle, then swooped down and parked the helicopter on the grass. Such skill that can only have been learnt from years of experience, probably, at first, in the military. Leads us to ask ourselves how on earth can PW be considered qualified for this kind of mission? Granny must have made one enormous donation to the EAAA to ensure her grandson got the job. I also wish good luck to the poor souls who are in PW's helicopter, I for sure would not want to be on it. Ex military helicopter pilots have experience of landing in so many awkward places, under pressure, nerves of steel. Willy boy does not have those skills or experience. Another helicopter flying course is not going to give him that kind of experience either. Those guys know how to work under pressure and time constraints, whilst fearing for their lives. They have done it time and again. All willy boy has done is co-pilot (possibly pilot on occasion) at SAR Anglesey and several weeks in Argentina, and I bet he was kept out of danger, just as Harry was in Afghanistan.
There are many very experienced and capable ex military helicopter pilots out there, looking for jobs to pay their bills and keep the wolves from the door, and yet they go and create a position for willy boy, and order a new, bigger helicopter to accommodate pilot/co-pilot and one more seat for an rpo.
Of course, forgive me, I keep forgetting, we are all in this economic recession together, silly me.

Well said, Snow Kitten the pilots skill and expertise in a such a situation is awesome and it's obvious from your description that the pilot has had many years of flying behind him in order to exercise such high flying skills in such a situation. Like you, sorry for the injured victims concerned in this rescue.
Do you guys remember Ken Wharfe? Wharfe was a protection officer assigned to Princess Diana. He thinks Wille's job is no more the a 'PR Stunt.'
"William, his wife and his brother are experts in the field of royalty, and however much they display their loom bands, they are not normal. He should listen to his grandmother, get out there, use his position and raise money for his charities in a royal way – and not rely on stunts seemingly encouraged by sycophants."

Well said Snow and the UK public are generally horrified that Willy's whims could seriously endanger a rescue. There isn't any way he could be competent in that job when he is MIA most of the time. Rumour has it right now that they are all off as usual on a tropical vacation again.

I see he is cutting a ribbon or something on 8 September, yet he can´t go to Malta for the 50th Anniversary of Independence as he is "working". Cherry picking again, as ever.
